Franklin firefighters spent the evening of August 25th training on bloodborne pathogens and engine company operations (water supply and master stream operations). Training night was then cut short when the department was dispatched to investigate black smoke in the area of Pine Street. Engine 5-1 and Truck 5-1 responded to investigate the source of the smoke.

RIC Response to Westmont
Posted in Incidents on Thursday, August 20, 2009 by franklinfireAt 1624 on August 24th, Franklin firefighters were dispatched for a rapid intervention crew (RIC) to assist the West Hills Fire Department at a structure fire on Spear Avenue in Westmont Borough. Engine 5-1 responded with four volunteers. Upon arrival, the crew performed a size up of the residence and set up a RIC staging area in front of the residence. After a short time of standing by, Engine 5-1’s crew was released since first-arriving crews had a quick knockdown of the fire that was contained to the second floor.
Training Night

The firefighters went over the new personal accountability system that is used to monitor a firefighter’s safety by tracking his/her assignments during an incident. Firefighters then went over the operation of a new carbon monoxide monitor and reviewed the location and operation of various equipment on the rescue-engine and pumper-ladder trucks.
Rescue-Engine Wins Awards
Posted in Incidents on Saturday, August 15, 2009 by franklinfireThroughout the summer months, Engine 5-1 won two awards at local parades that were attended by Franklin firefighters. At the Southmont Fire Department’s Jubilee Parade, our rescue-engine won the Judge’s Choice award. Then in July, the rescue-engine won the Special Judge’s Award for Fire at the Ferndale Fire Department’s Jubilee Parade. To this date, the rescue-engine has won an award at every parade it has attended further showing that it is a very well-designed versatile piece of fire apparatus.
