As firefighters were arriving at the station at 0600 hours on February 28th, for the monthly sub sale, a first alarm was dispatched only minutes later for a structure fire on Zurenda Lane in East Taylor Township.
Engine 5-1 responded immediately and was the third arriving apparatus. Chief 17 arrived first to find a fully-involved mobile home with power lines down and all residents evacuated. Engine 5-1’s crew assisted Engine 17-1 and 17-2 with water supply, fire attack, scene lighting, and ventilation. Upon arrival of Truck 5-1, its crew assisted with overhaul and ventilation. Crews had a quick knockdown and worked to overhaul the structure. Truck 5-1 returned to service by 1000 hours, with Engine 5-1 back in service around noon.
While the engine and truck crews operated at the fire, additional firefighters were at the station to make and sell the submarine sandwiches.
